Registering (or subscribing – same thing, different name) tells me that you find FPM interesting and informative – enough so that you plan to return for another visit in the future. That’s important for me to know. If the core of registered users continues to grow, I’ll know that FPM is providing ideas and insights that you find useful – which beats the heck out of guessing what my visitors are thinking!
The ‘Subscriber-Only‘ articles and sections of FPM are a way to say ‘Thanx!’ for taking the time to register. But there are other benefits, too.
I also like the idea of keeping The FPM Peer Review, and some other essays and articles, restricted to a community of serious readers. I like the idea of having a spot where we all can share works-in-progress or other work that we might not want to ‘whole world’ to see quite yet. Some very serious figure photographers (me included!) hesitate to put their nudes online at all, for fear that they’ll ‘get loose’ and wind up places they don’t belong. While I can’t guarantee that will never happen here, by restricting some of our content to areas not accessible to the general public (nor to search engines or spambots), I hope that registered users will enjoy the privacy of being able to participate in a community of peers who have taken the time to register.
In other words, this ain’t flickr.
Will I ever sell your email address to some spammer in China (or anyone else at all)?
No. Not ever.
Will I ever send you an email to tell you about something new here at FPM? Occasionally. But if you email to say: “Knock it off” – I will. That’s a promise.
As a visitor or as a new Subscriber, your thoughts on this approach are welcome and much appreciated. Shoot me an email with your comments to craig at figurephotographymagazine dot com - I’d love to hear from you.
